Choosing the Right Photo

The photo you choose will have an impact on the finished results for your piece of art. The higher the quality, the more details I will be able to recreate. It's best to use photos with even natural light, taken with your pet facing the light (your back is to the main light source). We don't want their face to be obscured by shadows! However, I am understanding that there isn't always a lot of options in terms of photos.

Please don't worry if you aren't sure which photo you want to use for your piece. Send as many as you can! There is genuinely no such thing as too many photos in my books.

If you intend to use photos by a professional photographer, please ensure that you have permission for use as a reference for artwork. Do feel free to reach out to me for advice in finding a photographer.

Looking After your Art

A framed example of a dog portrait.

Although I use the very best archival products, it is advised to place art out of direct sunlight, or behind UV protective glass, to avoid any fading.

Artwork also shouldn't hang near direct heat sources, or in a room with high humidity. This is because rapid changes in temperature/humidity can cause warping to the paper.

If the piece starts to look a bit dusty, you can use a lint-free cloth, or a feather duster, to lightly remove the dust. Though it is best to keep it stored away, when not framed.

Lastly, it's standard practice to have your art mounted, to create a bit of separation between the work and the glass of the frame.

I leave mounting and framing down to the individual, as it is highly dependant on each individuals taste and the style of the home.

But most importantly, enjoy your portrait!
